Cooperation with Other Associations

CALACS is one of four constituent bodies of the Canadian Council of Area Studies Learned Societies (CCASLS). Together with the Canadian Association of African Studies (CAAS), the Canadian Asian Studies Association (CASA), and the Canadian Committee of the Middle Eastern Studies Association of North America (CANMES), CALACS holds joint conferences or regional workshops and cooperates to further the expansion of knowledge about all areas of the world.

Furthermore, graduate programmes in Interdisciplinary Studies can be designed around a student's area of interest, taking courses from almost any department as available. 

Universities with Latin American and Caribbean Related Courses 

Most Canadian universities offer courses in Latin American literature and culture within their Spanish language programmes. A few also offer Portuguese language programs, including Brazilian literature, and some English departments offer courses in English literature of the Caribbean. 

Courses in Latin American history, economics, political science, geography, and anthropology may be offered within those departments.
