CALACS Honours Dr. Steven Palmer as its 2017 Distinguished Fellow

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Steven Palmer has been selected as the recipient of the Association’s Distinguished Fellow Award for 2017.

This distinction is conferred to members and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to CALACS and whose actions have contributed to furthering its Vision and Mission.

Dr. Palmer has shown a deep commitment to CALACS, serving as Vice President, President, Past-President, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Association between 2002-2012. During this same period, Dr. Palmer housed the CALACS office at the University of Windsor and later oversaw its transfer to York University, secured an IDRC grant for the Association, and co-organized the CALACS 40th anniversary Congress in Montreal.

Dr. Palmer’s contributions to Latin American and Caribbean studies in Canada are also enormous. A leading scholar of the history of medicine of Latin America, Dr. Palmer is the author of three books, six edited volumes, and numerous articles. He has also been recognized internationally as an authority on the state of Latin American Studies in Canada.
