The Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CALACS) is looking for two social media volunteers who are knowledgeable—and preferably with some experience—in marketing and/or advertising to help promote our activities and related information through our media channels.
CALACS is a dynamic national organization with ample international ties in Canada and the Latin American and Caribbean region. The volunteers will play a central role in the achievement of the CALACS communication strategy, particularly in relation to the areas of diffusion and promotion.
We offer a recommendation letter from the President of the association based on a successful performance, and the possibility for you to include this work as part of your professional portfolio. This will be relevant as CALACS is a non-profit with multiple and active ties with diverse organizations, universities, NGOs, and governments across Canada and the Latin American and Caribbean region.
SOCIAL MEDIA VOLUNTEER DUTIES
The central duties of our volunteers will be:
- the steady (re)distribution of content on our Facebook, Twitter, and webpage, including announcements of employment and scholarship opportunities, relevant articles, news from the association, etc.
- the production and distribution of our bi-weekly bulletin using MailChimp, with an already developed template.
- and the support in the creation of online campaigns that may include Facebook, Twitter, the website, and other media such as YouTube videos, podcasts, photography, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
We welcome those who would contribute to the further diversification of our organization, including—although not limited to—First Nations, Inuit and Métis persons, visible minorities, women, persons with disability, and persons of any sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.
Attention to detail, cultural awareness and sensitivity, great written communication skills, and some familiarity with Latin America and/or the Caribbean are necessary. Knowledge of one of the other 3 official CALACS languages besides English is an asset (i.e. Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese).
If you are interested in being part of a vibrant team at CALACS, please submit your one-page résumé to Communications Interim Chair, Alejandro Hernández (alejandro_hernandez(at)carleton.ca) by July 15, 2017. We already appreciate your interest and time spent on your submission, unfortunately, we only will be able to contact those who were selected.
